On Monday, April 8, 2019, I will give an all-new, illustrated talk in Washington, DC, on "Four Centuries of American Family Heritage Treasures and a rare glimpse at some of the originals themselves" at a luncheon (12:00 pm to 1:30 p.m) hosted by three dear friends, David Martin Trebing and Brantley and Peter Knowles, at a private club. This will be the second annual luncheon of American Ancestors and the New England Historic Genealogical Society during the popular hereditary society week in Washington. Members of our society, visiting hereditary societies, and other friends are warmly invited to attend (see registration information at bottom).
In this presentation, I will discuss the origins of family history-related folk art: pen-and-ink family registers, family record needlework samplers, and other object types that contributed to the formalization of the genealogical discipline in America---as well as rare historical objects that speak to great moments in American history: from a cane fashioned from a branch of a tree planted by Mayflower passenger Peregrine White to the musket ball that felled Joseph Warren at the Battle of Bunker Hill, you will see firsthand and even handle some of the rare treasures collected by our society over almost two hundred years.
